Doodle Puppy Training Services

We offer customized training services exclusively for clients who get a puppy from us. Training your Stokeshire Doodle properly is a crucial part of raising a well-behaved companion. Ignoring early-stage training can lead to difficulties later on in your dog's life. We understand that many people struggle to devote enough time to puppy training due to time constraints in today's world. This program is designed to address the concerns of those who have the time and dedication to care for a dog but recognize the challenges of puppy training.

WOW - I am so impressed with Fuzzy! He’s the most mild-mannered 3.5-month-old puppy I have ever met. He’s doing great at home. The kids are excited about training him and I really wish there was a manual for training the kids.
We are so happy we chose to put our puppy in training with Kelsey! Kelsey was so responsive and made sure to understand our lifestyle, which made the transition to home a breeze. Our dog is a dream puppy - he’s so well-behaved and mild-tempered and we credit Kelsey for all of her hard work. I cannot recommend her enough!

Our Philosophy

We understand that proper training methods are paramount when training a puppy. Here at Stokeshire, we use positive reinforcement methods as part of a balanced approach and the results have proven to be incredibly successful. A large part of dog training is having an intuitive trainer who totally understands a dog’s language of communication. Once a trainer understands this, it becomes second nature to develop our precious puppies into well-behaved, well-trained dogs with an amazing foundation for their new owners to build on.

Classical Conditioning

Classical conditioning is a type of learning that involves creating an association between two stimuli. In doodle puppy training, classical conditioning can be used to train the puppy to associate a particular action or behavior with a specific cue or command.

For example, if you want to train your doodle puppy to sit when you say "sit," you can use classical conditioning by giving the command "sit" and then immediately giving the puppy a treat. Repeat this process several times, and eventually, the puppy will learn to associate the command "sit" with the reward of a treat and will sit when you give the command.

How our puppy imprint program is different?

We have learned what works best for both the client and the puppy. Many trainers who offer training simply come to your house once or twice a week for an hour-long session to work with you and the puppy. At Stokeshire, the puppies in the imprinting program live with the trainers 24/7 for the entire length of the program. This gives the puppy the best start to life because they are living in an environment that mimics real life. They are under the direction of a professional who understands dog behavior and dog training.

Our imprint training begins on puppies when they are 8 weeks of age and it is a 12-week program. They are around 4.5-5 months of age when they are ready to go home. When we have the puppy for the entire 12 weeks, we are able to have their behaviors well established and they will be further along in the house training (pretty much 100% house trained).

How do we select our puppies for the imprint training program?

When a Stokeshire puppy is chosen for the imprint training program, we select the top picks in the litter. We select the puppies for training based on the puppy who exhibits the following:

  • Aesthetics

  • Temperament

  • Health

  • Trainability

What is included with Doodle School?

Housetraining

Our trainers work tirelessly to ensure your puppy comes to your home without making messes in the house. While every puppy learns at a different pace, the puppies are typically house-trained by the end of 12 weeks. Clients are always enthused with the fact that they don’t need to worry about all the messes that come with an untrained eight-week-old puppy.

Crate training

Our trainer uses the crate training method to house-train the puppies. This is a very effective way to house-train a puppy and it also teaches them not to be anxious when they need to be confined. Most puppies actually end up enjoying the crate; it ends up being their den that they go to for sleeping even during the day.

Leash Training

We see so many dogs walking down the streets that are completely out of control. This is because proper leash training was never instilled in the puppy at a young age. Our trainers work with your puppy to create good leash manners.

SOCIALIZATION

Stokeshire-Doodle-School-Puppy-Socialization-Checklist.jpg
  • Guidance through puppy's "fear period" - the puppy will not make negative associations with potential fear factors.

  • Guidance through puppy's first teething period - the puppy will learn what to chew on besides its owners! Individual socialization time in public.

  • Exclusive socialization excursions (schools, horse farms, pools, etc.)

  • Increased patience with other dogs, humans, etc.

  • Assists puppy with knowing its place in its home and lessens dominant tendencies

Sit

“Sit” is a command that is so important. When a dog has a good sit, you are able to control excitable behavior. This is such a valuable tool and sets your dog up for success when they have learned the sit command well.

Stay

The stay position is important to learn as a young puppy. It teaches self-restraint even when unsupervised. A good stay is important because it gives you complete control of the dog without using force.

Come

A good recall is important when you are wanting the dog to return to your side after a run in the backyard or at the off-leash park. There is nothing more frustrating than a dog who will not come back when called. Our trainers work hard to make sure the puppies have a good recall. This will need continual reinforcement until the dog becomes an adult.

Down

A dog who doesn’t know the down position will often tend to be an annoyance to the owner and to visitors coming over to your house. It is always important to teach your dog to stay down/off of other humans and our trainers give your dog an excellent foundation in this area.
*Keep in mind the importance of continuing on with the training instilled into these puppies to ensure you have success into the future.

HEALTHCARE & GROOMING

  • Insurance through Trupanion for 30 days free. Additional coverage is required for the length of your puppy’s stay.

  • Regular baths & nail trims

  • Start on tooth brushing

  • Regular fur trims around the puppy's face, feet, and fanny

  • Professional grooming prior to arriving home

  • Up-to-date on vaccines - including distemper and rabies vaccines (records to transfer to the owner at the time of puppy's arrival.

  • Flea & Tick Topical Treatments

Stokeshire's Doodle School Program integrates "Sit" and "Come" hand signals into their puppy training regimen for puppies aged 8-12 weeks. By using clear, consistent gestures, trainers effectively communicate with the young dogs, reinforcing these essential commands through repetition and positive reinforcement. This early introduction not only enhances obedience but also strengthens the bond between the puppies and their handlers, setting a strong foundation for future training.

Puppy Grooming & Hygiene

Do your trained Stokeshire puppies transition well to their new owners after the training is completed?

The answer is yes! Most of our puppies will not skip a beat when they move to their new home. At Stokeshire, as a result of many of our dams/sires living with us, we socialize the puppies to ensure they are well-acclimated to entering new surroundings. The trainers do a fantastic job of making sure you know everything about the puppy you have selected and they will help you make the transition an easy one.

When you pick up your trained puppy, the trainer will spend as much time as you need to make sure you are totally comfortable and ready to take your puppy home. If you are prepared and know the puppy’s current routine at the time you take your puppy home, the transition should be almost seamless.

If I get a trained Stokeshire Doodle puppy what can I expect?

Communication between the trainer and client. When you reserve a trained puppy from Stokeshire, we always put you in touch with the trainer who is working with your puppy. We believe that communication is important and you will be updated once a week on your puppy’s progress. The trainer will either text, call or email you updates. If you live in the area, you are welcome to come for visits during the training process as well.

Lots of helpful information

We understand that many people who want to use our training services are not familiar with training a dog and so we make sure you are educated and know all the ins and outs of what your dog has been trained for. We also provide resources to help you continue the training even after you take your puppy home.

Lifetime trainer support

Our commitment to you is to offer lifetime support to anyone who purchases a trained puppy from us. You are free to contact the Stokeshire trainer who has trained your puppy anytime for advice and direction. If you have any questions about anything training-related, the trainer will be there for you. If you have any questions about the puppy in general, Stokeshire will be here to support you!

Is a trained Stokeshire Doodle puppy for me?

Everyone’s circumstances in life are different. While many can manage the training themselves, there are others who find this service very supportive.

A few questions to ask yourself:

  • Will I have the time to properly train a new puppy?

  • Am I able to commit to the extra time it will take to go to puppy classes if I don’t do the imprint training at Stokeshire?

  • Am I able to commit to the extra cost of having a puppy trained through the imprinting program Stokeshire offers?

  • If I do decide to train the puppy myself, will I stay true to my decision in order to set my puppy up for success and become a good canine citizen?

  • Will training the puppy myself only cause my family to stress out and become overwhelmed?

  • Many people are fully capable of training their own puppies but being professionals, they just don’t have the time it takes to properly train their new puppy.

Disclaimer:

If you're seeking a perfectly trained and always obedient puppy, our program and dogs may not align with your expectations. While we don't promise perfection, we guarantee top-notch care and attention to your puppy's well-being.

Our clients understand the ongoing commitment needed for puppy care, even post-Doodle School.

At Doodle School, we provide a structured framework focusing on crate training and socialization during the crucial first 8 to 16 weeks of your puppy's life. Our goal is to have them potty trained, akin to a child entering Kindergarten. However, each puppy develops uniquely, requiring guidance and support to exhibit desired behaviors consistently.

Owners commit to additional training after each 4-week Session, with ongoing support provided through weekly updates and phone support post-graduation.

Expect some regression upon returning home as your puppy adjusts to new surroundings. We assist in creating a familiar environment, emphasizing consistent schedules and reward systems for continued success in training.

While we strive to offer comprehensive training and support, it's important to recognize that all puppies develop at different rates and respond differently to training methods. Continuous dedication and consistency in training efforts are essential for long-term success.

Refund Policy for Doodle School:

Please note that we do not offer any refunds for our Doodle School program under any circumstances. Our fees are paid directly to independent contractors involved in the training process and are non-refundable.

Throughout the training process, we encourage open communication. You're welcome to review progress, ask questions, and express any concerns you may have. Our team at Stokeshire is here to support you and your puppy every step of the way.

Lastly, we want you to enjoy every moment with your puppy, even when they make mistakes. They love you more than they love themselves. They are always watching and learning from you and their environment; looking to you for positive feedback (R+). The whole process is a sensory-rich journey! We want you to have confidence as you continue building on the blocks that started with the end in mind, long before conception.

Additional Info:

This is one of the benefits of Doodle School is puppies who stay with their moms longer are proven to be better adjusted. A puppy's mother or female pack mate teach puppies 'how to be a dog' and how to adjust to the world around them. Their mothers, along with their litter-mates, teach the puppy bite inhibition, showing them what is appropriate, much like a father showing his toddlers how to rough-house.

At Stokeshire, we sit in the whelping areas with all of our dams as they are having their puppies, and help deliver them. Katie is the first perons to see and handle them and Rivalee is the first ones to give them their first puppy meal once they’ve started getting their teeth. We are solely responsible for their health for the first couple of months of their lives with the help of our local Vet. Our children watch their ears and eyes open, and their personalities begin to develop. We know their pedigrees and personalities of their parents and have them living in the house and studio with us.

A puppy knowing its place in the pack is essential to its development. Dogs are either an Alpha dog, a Beta Dog, or an Omega dog. We see them start vying for their position in their litter just hours after they are born competing for the most milk from their mothers. The fat ones tend to show us who is boss. We have the knowledge of their early weeks and development, and when we are able to train them for Doodle School, it's easier for us to deduce if the puppy is a true alpha, beta, or omega dog. At Stokeshire, we have a well-adjusted pack of dogs of many different sizes, personality, and breeds. Our doodle puppies will get to experience and interact with them on a daily basis. Of course, most people only have one or two dogs, but the puppy understanding where they belong in the pack will make them easier to fully train, and easier for you as their owner to understand their individual tendencies
