Guardian Home Care Responsibilities

Becoming a Guardian Home means providing essential care for your pup, including:

Basic Dog Care: Ensure your dog receives quality food, regular annual check-ups, and necessary vaccinations.

Rest assured, Stokeshire covers all breeding-related expenses! This includes:

Health Testing
X-rays
Progesterone Testing
Additional Care During Whelping or Breeding

We understand that this opportunity may not be suitable for everyone, and it’s important that you feel equipped to meet these requirements. Your commitment ensures a happy, healthy life for your guardian dog! Thank you for considering being a part of the Stokeshire family!

Guardian Home Requirements

Location Check: Ensure you live within 120 miles of Medford, Wisconsin for dams and anywhere in the U.S. for our studs.
Provide a Loving Home: Be committed to offering the best possible environment for your guardian dog. They deserve all the love!
Fenced Yard: Make sure you own or live in a home with a fully fenced yard or an equivalent space for safe play.
Dog Experience: Have some previous experience with dogs to help your guardian pup thrive!
Teach Basic Commands: Be willing to teach essential commands like sit, stay, lay down, no, and leave it. We love seeing our Teamwork toward earning the Canine Good Citizen certification!
Socialization is Key: Ensure your puppy is socialized with adults, children, and other animals to promote a well-rounded temperament.
Indoor Living: Your guardian dog must be an indoor pet and should never be left unattended outside. They want to be part of the family!
Feed Premium Food: Provide high-quality, premium dog food for optimal health and well-being.
Spay/Neuter Other Dogs: If you have other dogs in your home, ensure they are fixed if they are the opposite sex. This helps maintain a healthy environment!
Regular Exercise: Offer plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep your guardian dog happy and healthy.
Welcome Visits: Be open to letting Stokeshire come and visit your home. We love staying connected!
Insurance Coverage: Carry insurance that covers major surgeries to ensure your dog’s health is always protected.

Guardian Home Responsibilities

Reach Out for Support: If your dog experiences a serious illness or accident, contact us immediately. We're here to help!
Vet Visit Updates: Send us a copy of all vet visit records when requested. We love staying updated on your pup’s health!
Build a Vet Relationship: Establish a strong working relationship with a veterinarian who offers reproductive health services for canines. It’s a great way to ensure your dog’s well-being!
Stay Selective: Keep your pup’s future bright by not allowing them to mate with unapproved dogs. Your cooperation helps maintain our breeding standards!
Prioritize Vet Care: Provide veterinary care as needed. Your dog’s health is our top priority!
Prepare for Breeding (Females): If you’re a guardian for a female dog, be ready to drop her off for 1-2 weeks during breeding and again one week before her whelping date. She'll enjoy some extra care at Stokeshire until the puppies are weaned!
Prepare for Breeding (Males): If you’re a guardian for a male dog, plan for a 3-5 day stay for breeding unless we’ve arranged to pick him up. We can even come to you sometimes!
Communicate Openly: Keep the lines of communication open with us about scheduling testing, mating, whelping, and any other breeding-related matters. We’re in this together!
